COLLECTOR FIELD NOTES
A few useful habits before your collection changes hands.
01 / PHOTOGRAPHS
Start with an overview of the collection in soft, even light. Photograph the front and back of notable pieces, then add close-ups of wear, labels and identifying marks. Keep the whole object in focus.
Leave items in their protective holders. Avoid glare, heavy filters and backgrounds that hide edges. Photographs help with an initial review; they cannot establish every aspect of condition or authenticity.
02 / THE RECORD
Record names, set numbers, dates, editions and certification references exactly as shown. Note missing pieces or packaging. If a detail is uncertain, say so rather than guessing.
Receipts or provenance may help later. For the first enquiry, do not include identity documents, payment details or your street address.
03 / THE HANDOVER
Before dispatch, agree the item list, price or consignment terms, fees, inspection conditions, delivery method and who carries transit risk. Keep a copy of the agreement and condition photographs.
